Did I call it or did I call it. In Oregon, we have shooters who go into the wilderness, enjoy some recreational shooting(plinking), then leave spent shells & other garbage they brought in to shoot up & destroy.
This summer, I found a slice of heaven up in the mountain. Nobody rarely came by. I could shoot for hours with great backstop & I actually shot up to 100 yards in this spot. Most areas are good for 25 yards, or less. In my last previous post, I touched on how some shooters were trashing the place.... BAM. Area closed. My plinking spot before this was a dump too & it too was shutdown.
- PLEASE PICK UP YOUR TRASH -
They are killing me, they really are. More & more people I know are getting into guns. More & more areas are closed down because they leave garbage behind. If you don't enjoy fighting other shooters for space, leave with more trash than you brought in. Come on man.
Sorry, so today, it's the hunting season or something, because I passed like 7 vehicles on the way up the mountain. Very unusually busy. Not so great go-to spot, taken. There was one road just few hundred yards from this spot & I never knew where it led? It led here:
Wow. More trash left behind. |
Set up my usual work area. Then.... tada!
Same rifle as my last post. Smith & Wesson M&P-15, with Magpul UBR stock(Vers. 2). However, this time with Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Upper. Daniel Defense is one of the best AR-15's one can buy. Typically way above my price range, but it's not crazy expensive like some of those $3,000 handguns, etc. This upper on sale was $860(shipped). Considering I paid $500 for the whole M&P-15 rifle, that's a lot, but I had these gift cards coming to me worth $1k, so I had decided that I was going to buy a nice gun with it. I looked at 1911's, semi-automatic shotguns, etc., but when I found out that you could actually buy a Daniel Defense complete Upper for under a grand, I lost interest in all other firearms very fast.
"V7" in the name refers to the M-LOK accessory attachment system. It looks modern. I actually wanted the quad-picatinny rail version, but everybody online & real life recommended I go with the M-LOK + when I read that USSOCOM(US Special Operations Command) had decided to go with M-LOK..... who am I to argue everybody I know. And SOCOM. *wipes sweat*
I put my EOTech 512 red dot sights + MBUS(Magpul flip-up Backup Sights) on there for now. I may switch it up with what's on my M&P-15 Upper in the future:
AR536 by Burris(w/FastFire3 red dot) |
With aluminum magazine.
I wasn't sold on this design, but I'm kinda glad I listened to my peeps. Aesthetics of the handguard grew on me, it's lighter & almost $100 cheaper than the quad rail.
Took me longer than I thought sighting it in, but it shot really nice. It's accurate, but you know, 25 yards. lmao
While today was Daniel Defense Upper Day, I had another objective. I was going to test my target shooting skill with my Glock. Yes, I realize the statement is a joke in itself(see the pics below), but hey, I am getting better. Kind of sad & happy news at the same time amirite.
Round counts per picture's weird, because I've been shooting 5 rounds at a time to improve my focus. I still can't shoot the Glock like I shoot my Kimber 1911, but I think I did okay until 25 yards. To make the matter worse, fog & misting got so bad I had to end the session right here. :(
All wet!! |
Go home with more than you brought in. Please pickup trash in the woods, they continue to shut down more areas because of the trash people leave behind.
Bonus(not really):
Went with couple of pals, couple of weeks ago. Ruger 10/22, Desert Eagle & that AR is a DPMS with Vortex red dot.
I asked him bring this one. I hadn't shot Springfield Armory 1911 in a really long time.
Borrowing the Desert Eagle.
I've shot his Desert Eagle before, but I really doubt I'll never get too comfortable with this it. Observe the recoil. lol
DPMS encountered an issue. Failure to Feed. Maybe dirty, maybe something else. My M&P-15 has yet to jam, but one of the guys at work other day was telling me his jammed. I think he shoots his lot more than me though. Me, I'm horrible about not cleaning after shooting, so I'm sure it's only matter of time. :( The car, I had no choice, but to wash hehe.....
