.22LR Plinking

Here we are again.  Been wanting to come up & shoot some Ruger SR22(a .22 pistol) & Glock 19(9mm).  Been pushed back due to flaky buddy or weather, but we made it here today.  :) 

Remington 597 .22LR rifle - AKA "MEH"  Scope is Redfield Revenge 2~7.

Brought my Bushmaster .308, but we didn't shoot it today.  Just light plinking mostly with .22LR & couple boxes of 9mm(that's 100 rounds).

Ruger SR22 pistol.  I never shoot this thing.  Even during the .22LR shortage, I had stockpile of .22 rounds, but I still didn't shoot this, or my Remington 597.  I was too busy with the .45ACP, 9mm & .308.  Friend who went with me today, he doesn't own any guns, but he's a fan of .22's.  He's probably shot my 597 more than I have.  Today, he definitely shot more than me. lol

Unless you are shooting, finger on the trigger is a no-no(big safety risk).  In my defense, I had just unpacked the gun & it wasn't even loaded yet.  My .22's are NEVER loaded at home.  NEVER.

There are..... other people's kids at this shooting spot(that's me being diplomatic).  They leave smaller appliances behind, spent shells, casings & other garbage(we pick up some of their trash, along with our own).  Another thing they were into was shooting into this poor tree.  Every time we been there, there was little more carved off this tree.  I was afraid that one day, we were going to find this tree on the ground, blocking the road.  Today, it seems that loggers been at it & it was neatly cut down.

While my buddy was shooting paper targets with the rifle, I was having fun with the .22 pistol & 9mm on this self-sealing spinner target.  I also had one of these miniature floormat display next to it:

I've been using this one for while, but poor guy finally had enough today.  I'm gonna try to put it back together with duct tape or something, but I think it might be done.  :(

More Ruger SR22.

Trying my new gloves.  Mechanix Wear Original Tactical Gloves($21-ish).  I've been wearing thick gloves ever since my gun blew up, but it's been difficult to reload with thick gloves, so I was trying out gloves with less thickness.  It worked.  It's much easier to reload, but they are pretty flimsy & I'm less protected, so oh well.  :p

Magpul AFG ABM - Angled Fore Grip.... All By Myself

Never been out here by myself.  I've gone to the shooting range alone bunch of times, but not out here in the woods of Timber.  Everything went smooth though, so all good.

I had two testing to run on my rifle today.  1) Magpul AFG, that funny triangular looking fore grip.  2) I moved the rear flip-sight(backup sight) forward, to the front of the scope.

Test 1 - AFG was okay, but I think I prefer the vertical grip both functionally & aesthetically, so that's gonna get swapped back before I go shooting next time.

Test 2 - I've never seen anybody put the rear backup flip sight forward, to the front of the scope.  Due to shorter distance between two sights, I'd imagine it'll affect the accuracy.  The reason why I did something so strange(and probably dumb) is the long eye relief affecting my sight picture.  Basically, when I'm looking through the scope, too much of the sight picture is blacked out.  Backup sight is a backup anyways.  I test fired it at 50 yards, it's not hitting bulleyes, but it's hitting the paper, and I'm fine with that.  Eye relief issue with the scope is totally gone.  Perfect.  

It looks kinda odd with the backup sight in the front, but that's how it's going to stay.  :p

Also shot the Glock 19 + Remington 597 .22 rifle with my old Redfield Revenge(2~7x) on it.  Had to sight it in for the .22LR rifle.  It was shooting great, minus the failure to feed from the 597 just about every mag or so & I just cleaned & lubed it just couple days ago.  Was it the crap Remington rifle, or crap Remington Golden Bullet ammo, who knows.  This 597 was my first firearm & I've been skeptical of anything Remington ever since.  :(

Ran into bunch of cyclists at the foothill today.  They are riding the bikes uphill into the mountain.  They must be in crazy good shape!

Hammers Telescopic Shooting Tripod w/ Pivot V Yoke

Ordered this Monday on eBay($55, free ship), got it on Friday.  Went out to try it out on Saturday.  

I thought bench-rest shooting with rifle would be fun, but decided to try this out first to see how it works out.  

Tripod comes with carrying bag & is very light.  According to the manufacturer website, it's 38oz, 32" when folded.  Height is adjustable between 25" to 68".

So nice to have a SUV, I can go shooting in the woods on a whim, but other people's kids are leaving lot of trash around here.  Fellow shooters:  Please don't leave trash in the woods.

Same parking spot, but just one vehicle this time.  Last week, buddy of mine wanted to drive into the woods in his Ford Focus.  Today, my other bud with Land Rover wanted to carpool instead.  Go figure. :p

At only 70 yards or so, even with the tripod, hitting bullseye wasn't as easy as expected.  It didn't take much effort to keep it in the circle(about 6"?), but I didn't expect it to be so hard to punch it in the middle at this kind of range.  Excuses coming at the bottom of the page.

 

No smile from me today.  I think I got food poisoning & I was pretty miserable.  I'll save you the details.  :D  Also, my buddy outshot me, and I'm totally blaming it on me being sick!
